| ABOUT THE TEACHING
STUDIO..... While a young child usually loses interest with repetitive exercise, the keyboard makes any piece fun while allowing the student to test out different instruments and enjoy altered sounds. This touch sensitive keyboard is one of the most highly rated of any digital keyboard available today The on board sequencer by Brother is another tool for listening and learning more about ones own playing. A student can develop a sophisticated sense of rhythm phrasing, nuance and control without imitating a teacher's style or technique. The process of composing is broached early on in the education of a young musician with the aid of the sequencer and its multi-track options. A child's imagination is all it takes to begin the task of composing, and the studio can fulfill a dream for some by bringing sounds together to tell stories, to build atmosphere, to set mood, thereby teaching a child, or an older beginner , that music starts with their own gifts. The studio with these capabilities will encourage in any beginner, intermediate or advanced student the love of music that they came to the studio with. The eagerness they feel will be nurtured and supported, the learning environment welcome and warm.

I believe that each student comes in with a gift all their own, it is my job to find that special and unique quality and help the student apply it to the difficult task of reading, playing and interpreting music. With those who are very young most to susceptible to negative thought, I attempt always to be positive and sensitive. It is a memory I have of my own piano training that one compliment can go so much further than any criticism. As a musician, it is my responsibility to pass on the love of music, not just the basics. My philosophy is simple. Begin with the person on the piano bench and go from there. Each student, young or old , has a favorite song or a single piece they have always wanted to know. By using that as a key, the opportunity to open all the musical doors at once is established. By using their love of a song ar a symphony we can learn the basics. As a teacher, my responsibility to teach theory, chord structure, scales and technique are not looked on as tantamount in the course of piano instruction. Rather, they are paramount; tools to use to begin the process of interpreting the written piece, placing value in the education of Key, Notation, Rhythm, Melody, Structure and Phrasing. Repertoire is essential to that end. The library of music available here is extensive and the fundamental compositions are covered in early music training. The amount and diverse selection of music available today is overwhelming. I think it is very important to match a student's abilities with a piece's difficulty. Choosing courses that follow a sound pedagogy is also essential if the student is to go beyond a level of reading and develop and ear for playing. |
